It is an honor and a privilege to volunteer for The Balmer Fund/Prairie Connection, a grassroots, volunteer  organization established in 1994.   We have a wide variety of volunteer tasks available and try to fit the task to your skill and interest level.  You will be primarily assisting Rosalea Hostetler, Founder and Chief Volunteer.   She volunteers about 2,000 hours a year and  is a great mentor for anyone who is willing to listen and learn. If you are older, and don't need a mentor anymore, she is a good cheerleader and support person.   All ages are encouraged to submit an application.

BALMER FUND TASKS (check)

• Lifting, sorting and organizing inventory (much of it collectibles)
• Yard work.
• Driving
• Basic carpenter skills and painting
• Serving snacks and taking tickets at the Prairie Arts Theatre on weekends
• Traveling with King Parrot On the Road are fun adventures, too.

Most work needs to be done in Harper County, but she will try to adapt to where you are and what you can do.,  Please be respectful of this woman's years of accomplishments.  You must be substance free, reliable, punctual, able to follow instructions to a "t,"  and finish the job.  You also need to be responsive-people who will not return phone calls or do not respond to emails sap too much of her  energy.

You may think being a volunteer is not a "real" job but it is-how you perform with volunteer work will follow you throughout your career, and can be used as a springboard for a better career path jobs.   It has also been scientifically proven that volunteers live longer!
